Erik Bertram

Erik Bertram serves as Professor at HAWK University of Applied Sciences and Arts' Faculty of Management, Construction, Real Estate since Winter Semester 2020, concurrently leading the Green Building program since April 2025 with consultation hours held weekly until September 15, 2025.

His academic foundation includes a degree in Energy and Process Engineering from TU Braunschweig (completed by 2004) and a 2015 PhD from Leibniz University Hannover on Heat Pump Systems with Vertical Ground Heat Exchangers and Uncovered Solar Collectors.

Bertram's research integrates Building Services Engineering with Renewable Energy Systems through Digital Building Planning methodologies, specializing in Heat Pump Technology, Solar Thermal Energy, and Geothermal Energy applications for Energy Efficiency in Buildings. His experimental work spans dynamic system simulation, PVT collectors, and geothermal probe monitoring.

Prior academic roles include Research Associate at the Institute for Solar Energy Research Hameln/Emmerthal (ISFH) until 2015 and leadership of the IEA SHC Task 44/HPP Annex 44 Collector Modelling Group (2010-2013). Industry experience encompasses building services planning for industrial, commercial, and public structures at Meinhard Fulst engineering firm until 2020.

As head of the Green Building program, he directs curriculum development for Building Services, Energy Efficiency, People and the Environment, emphasizing construction and renovation practices harmonized with ecological and human wellbeing principles.
