Dr. Erick Butler is an Associate Professor of Environmental Engineering at West Texas A&M University's College of Engineering. He joined in 2013, holding a B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. in environmental and civil engineering from Cleveland State University. His research focuses on wastewater treatment technologies like electrocoagulation, livestock waste management, and climate change impacts on water resources. He currently teaches courses in environmental engineering, including water/wastewater treatment and surveying.
Dr. Butler has received grants for projects such as feedyard waste treatment using electrocoagulation and rural wastewater-based epidemiology. He serves as handling editor for International Journal of Environmental Engineering and International Journal of Environment and Waste Management. His work emphasizes sustainability, with recent studies on SARS-CoV-2 monitoring in wastewater and innovative solutions for homeless populations through engineering design.
His research spans electrochemical processes, nanotechnology applications, and interdisciplinary collaborations. Notable contributions include defluoridation reviews and flood risk outreach in rural Texas. Dr. Butler actively bridges academic research with community needs, addressing both technical and socioeconomic challenges in environmental engineering.
