Erica Feild-Marchello is the Sir John Elliot Fellow in Early Modern Spanish Studies at Exeter College, University of Oxford. Her research focuses on inclusion/exclusion dynamics, blood purity (limpieza de sangre), religious conversion, and language/translation in the Spanish Empire, with emphasis on Spain, Mexico, and the Philippines. She holds a PhD from NYU, and MA degrees in Translation (Universidad de Zaragoza) and Hebrew/Arab Cultures (Universidad de Granada), alongside a BA in French/Spanish (Seattle University).
Research: Currently completing her monograph *Por la boca: Language, Conversion, and the Racialization of Religion in the Spanish Empire*, analyzing how speech and linguistic differences shaped racial stereotypes and imperial policies. Concurrently researching Jesuit Ignacio de las Casas' advocacy for Arabic in evangelization and empire-building. These projects explore language's role in colonial governance, racial hierarchies, and imperial imaginaries.

- Fulbright-Hays Scholar (Spain & Mexico)
Teaching: Teaches courses on Global Empires of Spain/Portugal (1400-1800), integrating themes of intellectual history, race, and religious history. Affiliated with Exeter College's Early Modern Studies programs.
Labs/Initiatives: Engaged in interdisciplinary projects linking literary analysis with historical档案研究, collaborating with institutions like the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México and Oxford's Early Modern Centre.
