Erica Chito-Childs is the Interim Ruth and Harold Newman Dean of Hunter College's School of Arts and Sciences, where she has served as a Professor of Sociology for two decades. She previously held leadership roles including Senior Associate Dean, Sociology Department Chair, and Co-Chair of the Council of Chairs.

Her research examines racial, gender, and sexual identity formation through qualitative analysis of:
- Interracial relationships and their societal implications
- Racial representations in media and culture
- Global mixed-race experiences
- Family dynamics across racial boundaries
- Popular culture's role in shaping racial discourse
- Transnational perspectives on racial mixing
Recent publications focus on global mixedness, while her media commentary appears in The New York Times, NPR, and The Root. She is currently working on a book about international attitudes toward interracial relations across 18 countries.
