Erica Allen-Kim Daniels is a Researcher specializing in modern architecture and urban design at the Daniels Faculty of Architecture, Landscape, and Design, University of Toronto. She holds a Ph.D. from Harvard University and was a Mellon Postdoctoral Fellow at the Jackman Humanities Institute. Her research focuses on global cities, cultural landscapes, and the intersections of memory, citizenship, and transnational politics. Notable projects include her manuscript Mini-malls and Memorials: Building Little Saigon in American Suburbs and her current book project Chinatown Modernism, which examines American Chinatowns within modern architectural and urban planning contexts.
Her work analyzes Vietnamese-American war memorials, transnational Chinatown gate politics, and the socio-spatial dynamics of diasporic communities. She bridges architectural history with critical race theory and urban studies, offering insights into how built environments reflect cultural identity and political narratives.
