Eric Zimmermann is a Research Assistant at the Institute for Visual & Analytic Computing at the University of Rostock, Germany, under Prof. Dr. Stefan Bruckner. Previously, he worked as a Research and Teaching Assistant in the Mathematical Geometry Processing group at Freie Universität Berlin's Institute of Mathematics (2017-2024) and was a member of the Collaborative Research Center (CRC) Transregio 109 focused on point set surfaces. He earned a PhD in Mathematics (Dr. rer. nat.) in 2024 with his dissertation Point Clouds Between Local and Global Approaches.
His research bridges Mathematics, Visualization, and Computer Science, emphasizing structural aspects in differential geometry, discrete mathematics, and topology, alongside GPU-accelerated programming techniques. He developed interactive VR tools like Multi-Focus Probes (IEEE VIS 2025) for node-link diagram exploration and VRactal Explorer (Bridges Conference 2025) for generating 3D geometric shapes via iterative schemes. These projects utilize the babylon.js 3D engine and GPU-based raymarching.
