Eric Wiland is a Professor in the Department of Philosophy at the University of Missouri-St. Louis. His research focuses on ethics, practical reason, moral testimony, and the nature of advice. He holds a PhD in Philosophy from the University of Chicago (1997) and a BA in Economics from the University of Virginia (1989). His work examines cognitive and motivational flaws in moral agency, particularly through lenses of joint agency and epistemic responsibility.
Wiland has received notable awards including the Mellon Foundation Dissertation Fellowship (1995-96) and the Meritorious Service Award from the Students with Disabilities Association (2001-04). His research spans moral psychology, epistemology, and social theory, with recent publications exploring group well-being, peer disagreement, and the ethics of moral testimony.
