Dr. Eric W. Nelson is a Professor of History and Director of Graduate Studies in the Department of History at Missouri State University. He holds a Ph.D. in History from the University of Oxford (1999) and a B.A. in Early Modern European Studies from George Washington University (1992). His research focuses on early modern French history, global history, and the intersection of religious conflict and peacemaking. Key works include The Legacy of Iconoclasm (2015) and the co-authored textbook Ways of the World (2016). His scholarship explores Jesuit dynamics, post-war religious landscapes, and global historical frameworks.
Dr. Nelson has received numerous accolades, including the CASE/Carnegie Missouri Professor of the Year (2012) and multiple teaching excellence awards. He teaches courses such as World History to 1600, European History, and seminars on the Reformation and witch hunts. His current research converges global history, Jesuit studies, and peacemaking in sectarian conflicts.
Professional contributions include co-editing Layered Landscapes: Early-Modern Religious Space (2017) and editing volumes on Bourbon France and justice studies. He actively engages with public history through radio programs and community outreach.
