- PhD in American Studies from New York University
Eric Tang’s research focuses on refugee resettlement, urban displacement, and racial solidarity. His scholarship examines how neoliberal policies exacerbate segregation and criminalization in cities, particularly through the lens of Cambodian refugees in the Bronx and African American displacement in Austin. He also explores cross-racial alliances, such as Vietnamese and African American communities in post-disaster New Orleans.
The themes in Tang’s publications span refugee survival narratives, urban policy critique, and racialized migration. His work frequently intersects with public discourse, appearing in outlets like The New York Times and The Washington Post, alongside academic journals.
- Scientific Award: Constance Rourke Prize for best article in American Quarterly
He teaches courses such as Urban Unrest, Refugees in the 20th-Century U.S., and Black Studies: Theory and Methods, often cross-listed across African and African Diaspora Studies, Mexican American and Latina/o Studies, and Asian American Studies.
