Eric Schatzberg is a Professor in the School of History and Sociology at Georgia Tech's Ivan Allen College of Liberal Arts, specializing in the history of technology. He joined Georgia Tech in 2017 after a long career at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Schatzberg holds a Ph.D. in History and Sociology of Science from the University of Pennsylvania and a B.S. in Engineering from Swarthmore College. His research focuses on postwar technology, cultural dimensions of technological development, and the historiography of technology concepts. He critiques contemporary assaults on higher education and advocates for academic integrity.
Key contributions include his 2018 book Technology: A Critical History of a Concept, which examines the evolving meaning of 'technology' across history. He has received the Abbott Payson Usher Prize for outstanding scholarship in the history of technology. Schatzberg teaches courses such as Engineering in History, Culture and Technology, and Seminar in History of Technology.
