Eric R. Scaife, MD is Professor in the Department of Surgery and Adjunct Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Utah School of Medicine. Board-certified in both General Surgery and Pediatric Surgery, he practices primarily at Primary Children’s Hospital and associated outpatient clinics along the Wasatch Front and in Montana.

Research & Clinical Focus:
Dr. Scaife’s scholarly work and bedside practice span the full spectrum of pediatric surgery, with particular depth in pediatric trauma, pediatric surgical oncology (Wilms’ tumor, neuroblastoma, rhabdomyosarcoma, liver and neuro-endocrine tumors), and minimally invasive techniques. Additional areas of expertise include inflammatory bowel disease, congenital chest-wall deformities (pectus excavatum/carinatum), neonatal diaphragmatic hernia, and pediatric endocrine surgery of the thyroid, adrenal, and pancreas.
Across more than 20 peer-reviewed publications from 2008-2021, his research has emphasized improving trauma systems, refining diagnostic protocols such as FAST ultrasound, advancing minimally invasive approaches, and assessing long-term functional outcomes after complex pediatric surgical conditions.
