معرفی
Eric Pedersen, PhD, is an Associate Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the Keck School of Medicine, University of Southern California (USC), and holds a joint appointment in Population and Public Health Sciences and Psychology. His research focuses on substance use disorders, mental health, and behavioral interventions among vulnerable populations such as veterans, young adults experiencing homelessness, and college students.
Key areas of study include the interplay of alcohol, cannabis, and other substance use with PTSD, sleep quality, trauma, and social instability. He has led numerous randomized controlled trials evaluating digital interventions (e.g., mobile apps, online programs) for reducing substance use and improving mental health outcomes. His work often addresses disparities in healthcare access and stigma affecting marginalized groups like sexual minorities and veterans.
Recent studies highlight associations between trauma exposure (e.g., military sexual trauma, childhood adversity) and substance use trajectories, as well as the role of protective behavioral strategies in mitigating alcohol-related consequences. His research also explores the impact of the pandemic on veterans’ mental health and substance use patterns.
Pedersen collaborates with institutions like the USC Center for Economic and Social Research and the VA Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System. His projects frequently involve community-based participatory approaches to ensure interventions are culturally appropriate and scalable.
