Eric Norstrom is an Associate Professor in the College of Science and Health at DePaul University. His office is located in McGowan South, Room 412G, and he can be reached at enorstro@depaul.edu or by phone at (773) 325-2091.
Research Interests:
Dr. Norstrom's research focuses on the cellular mechanisms of neurodegenerative diseases, particularly Alzheimer's disease and prion diseases. His lab employs techniques including molecular genetics, protein biochemistry, proteomics, fluorescence microscopy, cell culture, and animal models to study the function and processing of proteins involved in these diseases.
Publication Trends:
His recent work (2010-2018) centers on the molecular processing of amyloid precursor protein (APP) and prion proteins. Key themes include the role of APP splicing in amyloid-beta production, the impact of genetic mutations on prion transmissibility, and the identification of protein interactors in Alzheimer's disease. These studies contribute to the understanding of disease mechanisms and potential therapeutic targets.
Laboratory:
Dr. Norstrom leads a research laboratory that utilizes a combination of biochemical, cellular, and animal model approaches to investigate neurodegenerative disease mechanisms.
