Eric Melonakos

Eric Melonakos is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Cell Biology and Physiology at Brigham Young University's College of Life Sciences. His research focuses on deciphering how neural activity generates consciousness, utilizing states like general anesthesia and sleep as reversible models to identify critical neural features.

The Melonakos Lab investigates the mechanisms and functions of synchronous neural activity through advanced techniques including in vivo calcium imaging, optogenetics, electrophysiology, and computational modeling. This work has implications for understanding consciousness regulation and anesthesia-induced neural dynamics.
