معرفی
Eric Kuo is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Physics at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, affiliated with The Grainger College of Engineering. His research focuses on cognitive, social, and affective dynamics in physics learning, with emphases on mathematical reasoning, belief development, and collaborative learning strategies. He holds a Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Maryland (2013) and has held postdoctoral positions at Stanford University and the University of Pittsburgh.
Key research interests include causal reasoning, adaptive problem-solving expertise, and the impact of motivation on physics learning. He designs physics education interventions grounded in learning theories and employs quantitative/qualitative methodologies. His work addresses challenges in STEM education, including equity and inclusive pedagogy.
Recent projects include a $2.6M grant for the Illinois Physics and Secondary Schools (IPaSS) Partnership Program, fostering collaboration between university and high school educators. He has been recognized as an excellent teacher in courses such as PHYS 100, 211, 325, and 598 PER. Current research explores mindfulness training to reduce psychological threat in introductory physics courses and the role of socio-emotional factors in teacher professional development.
Labs/Teams: Eric leads a research team emphasizing diversity and inclusivity, focusing on physics education research methodologies and innovative teaching strategies.
