Eric J Russell is a Professor of Radiology (Neuroradiology), Neurological Surgery, Neurology, and Otolaryngology at Northwestern University's Feinberg School of Medicine. He holds affiliations with the Ken and Ruth Davee Department of Radiology and the Northwestern University Clinical and Translational Sciences Institute (NUCATS) and Institute of Neuroscience (NUIN). His research focuses on cerebrovascular diseases, neuroimaging techniques, and the application of advanced MRI technologies to study brain-heart interactions, stroke mechanisms, and post-COVID-19 sequelae. He has contributed to studies on intracranial hemorrhage localization via deep learning, meningioma treatment outcomes, and long-term effects of viral infections on neurological and pulmonary systems.
Notable research directions include investigating hemodynamic coupling in aging populations using comprehensive heart-brain MRI, analyzing post-acute sequelae of infectious diseases like Monkeypox and SARS-CoV-2, and optimizing endovascular therapies for intracranial atherosclerosis. His work bridges clinical practice with translational research, emphasizing patient care improvement through imaging innovation.
Russell collaborates extensively with interdisciplinary teams on NIH-funded studies and has published in high-impact journals. His contributions to medical education include mentoring in neuroradiology and advancing training standards for diagnostic neuroangiography and cerebrovascular interventions.
