Eric Harper

Eric Harper is a Lecturer and Convenor in the Department of Social, Therapeutic and Community Studies (STaCS) at Goldsmiths, University of London. He specializes in psychoanalysis, activism, and decolonial thought, with a focus on marginalized communities. His work bridges clinical practice with social justice, particularly addressing issues of racism, class barriers, and mental health among vulnerable populations.

Research Interests: Harper explores the edges of psychoanalysis through frameworks like schizo-analysis, intersectionality, and eco-therapy. He interrogates how classic analytic theories (e.g., Freud, Fanon) can be reimagined through Afro-pessimism, queer theory, and post-colonial thought. His projects include collaborations with sex workers in Africa and initiatives to democratize psychoanalytic practice.

Advising & Grants: Co-supervises PhD research, oversees MA psychodynamic programs, and pioneered reflective practice training. Notable projects include establishing therapy services for the homeless and leading a pan-African sex worker alliance.

Labs/Teams: Co-leads the Freudian Spaceship project with Matt Lee, exploring Fanonian schizoanalysis and its applications in climate justice and anti-racism.
