Eric Bonilla serves as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders at Baldwin Wallace University, where he teaches graduate-level Adult Language Disorders and provides clinical supervision across diverse patient populations in the university clinic. As the newest faculty member, he bridges academic instruction with hands-on clinical training.
His educational background includes:
- Ph.D. in Advanced Studies in Human Behavior from Capella University
- M.A. in Speech-Language Pathology from The University of Akron
- B.A. in Speech-Language Pathology from The University of Akron
Dr. Bonilla's research examines counseling-related apprehension among speech-language pathologists (SLPs), investigating how practitioners perceive and manage emotional aspects of patient care. His work extends to memory decline in aging populations and the integration of counseling competencies within SLP education, emphasizing holistic clinical approaches that address both linguistic and psychological dimensions of communication disorders.
Prior to academia, he practiced clinically in acute care, skilled nursing, and rehabilitation settings. He actively contributes to professional discourse through guest lectures at universities and community events on aging-related memory issues and counseling in SLP, while mentoring students through clinical practicums that prepare them for real-world therapeutic challenges.
