Eric Barklis is Professor at OHSU's Vollum Institute and directs the Electron Microscope Core Facility. His lab studies retroviral assembly mechanisms and host-pathogen interactions using structural and biochemical approaches.
Research examines HIV-1 matrix protein functions, coronavirus entry inhibition, and lipid metabolism in viral replication. Recent work developed neutralizing nanobodies against SARS-CoV-2 variants.
Publications characterize viral protein interactions with host membranes and nucleic acids. The lab collaborates extensively on antiviral development and lentiviral vector engineering.
