Prof. Erhard Schüttpelz is a Professor of Media Theory at the University of Siegen. He leads a sub-project in the Collaborative Research Center 1187 'Media of Cooperation' and previously served as spokesperson for the DFG Research Training Group 'Locating Media'. His work bridges postcolonial studies, media history, and cultural anthropology.
Education: Studied German/English Literature at universities in Hanover, Exeter, Bonn, Oxford, and Cologne. Earned a doctorate in German Literature (with minor in ethnology) and later habilitated at the University of Konstanz with a thesis on 'Die Moderne im Spiegel des Primitiven - Weltliteratur und Ethnologie 1870-1960'.
Research Interests: Explores postcolonial literary/media history, media anthropology, rhetoric theory, and the intersection of science/ethnology with media studies. Recent works include Deutland (2023) and A Kind of World War (2021, co-authored).
Grants/Labs: Active in CRC 1187 and former RTG leadership roles, emphasizing collaborative media research frameworks.
