He has served as Department Head since 2022. His educational background includes a PhD in Forest Engineering from Kastamonu University (2019), an MSc in Biology from Kastamonu University (2018), an MSc in Biology Education from Afyon Kocatepe University (2006), and a BA in Biology from Afyon Kocatepe University (2005).
His research focuses on three primary areas:
- Biochemistry: Studying bioactive components in forest ecosystems
- Entomology: Specializing in forest pests and Trichoptera species
- Plant Physiology: Investigating seedling development and stress responses
YILMAZ's publications predominantly explore forestry applications, with recurring themes in seedling morphology, pest management, and environmental stress responses. His work shows consistent focus on Mediterranean tree species, particularly pines (Pinus brutia, Pinus nigra) and cedars, with recent emphasis on climate adaptation and laboratory-based entomological studies.
He has participated in three research projects as an investigator:
- Antalya Kızılçam Klonal Tohum Bahçesindeki Bazı Zararlıların Biyoaktif Bileşenlere Etkisi (2020-2023)
- Antalya Düzlerçamı Kızılçam klonlarında antioksidan aktivite varyasyonu (2020-2023)
- Vejetasyon Dönemine Bağlı Olarak Fotosentez ve Solunum Temelli Fizyolojik Süreçlerin İncelenmesi (2019-2021)
YILMAZ collaborates extensively with forestry researchers at Kastamonu University, particularly with Sezgin Ayan (14 joint publications). He teaches undergraduate courses including Anatomy, Plant Geography, Rational Drug Use, and Medical/Aromatic Plants.
