Erdmute Alber

Prof. Dr. Erdmute Alber is Chair of Social Anthropology at the University of Bayreuth, focusing on the interplay between kinship and politics in West Africa. She leads the Bayreuth Academy of Advanced African Studies and serves on multiple editorial boards.

• Research areas: kinship politics, generational relations, middle-class dynamics, literacy studies, and neoliberal impacts on family structures.
• Active in field research in Benin, Andean regions, Togo, Ghana, and Kenya.
