Enrique Iglesia is a Distinguished Professor of the Graduate School and Professor of Chemical Engineering at the University of California, Berkeley. He holds the Theodore Vermeulen Chair in Chemical Engineering (Emeritus) and serves as a Laboratory Fellow at the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory. His affiliations include the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory and editorial roles, such as Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Catalysis (1997-2010). He has led the Berkeley Catalysis Center (1999-2016) and held leadership positions in the North American Catalysis Society and International Association of Catalysis Societies.
Education: B.S. (summa cum laude) from Princeton University (1977), Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from Stanford University (1982).
Research focuses on heterogeneous catalysis, including methane conversion, catalytic membranes, and reaction engineering. His lab integrates catalytic solid synthesis, in-situ characterization, and modeling for applications in petrochemical processes. Key facilities include labs in Tan Hall (rooms 271, 276, etc.).
Awards highlight his contributions to catalysis and education, including the Faraday Lectureship Prize (2023), E. V. Murphree Award (2020), and multiple honorary degrees. He has advised numerous students and secured grants supporting catalysis research.
Labs/Teams: Leads the LSAC Research Group, with labs in Tan Hall focused on catalytic processes and membrane integration.
