Enrique Del Barco is a Pegasus Professor of Physics at the University of Central Florida (UCF), affiliated with the Department of Physics in the College of Sciences. He holds a PhD from the University of Barcelona (2001) and completed postdoctoral research at New York University before joining UCF in 2005.
His research focuses on low-temperature magnetic and transport properties of low-dimensional systems, including molecular nanomagnets, magnetic nanostructures, and graphene/2D materials. He leads the Del Barco Lab, which explores quantum tunneling, spin dynamics, and molecular electronics. Courses taught include undergraduate physics (PHY2053/2054/2048/2049) and advanced topics like PHZ4044/5405.
Key research areas include molecular-scale electronics, spintronics, and quantum phenomena in nanoscale systems. Recent work involves sub-terahertz spin pumping in antiferromagnets and single-molecule logic gates. His lab has developed advanced spectroscopic techniques like sub-Kelvin EPR systems.
Del Barco actively contributes to physics education through service-learning initiatives, such as a 2017 study on nanoscience education. He is a member of the American Physical Society and has published extensively in journals like Physical Review Letters, covering topics from molecular diodes to topological materials.
