Dr. Enrico Tubaldi is Reader in Structural Engineering at the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, University of Strathclyde, where he joined in October 2017 as Lecturer. He is affiliated with the Center for Intelligent Infrastructure and previously held a Marie Curie Research Fellowship at Imperial College London.
His research focuses on risk assessment of structures and infrastructure under natural hazards including earthquakes and floods, computational structural mechanics, and material testing. His work aims to understand the physical behavior of building and bridge structures while accounting for the stochastic nature of loading environments and structural properties, ultimately leading to safer, more economic design procedures and more resilient built environments.
Analysis of his recent publications reveals a strong focus on infrastructure resilience against natural hazards, particularly in bridge engineering and seismic design. His research integrates computational modeling with practical engineering applications, often incorporating machine learning techniques for risk assessment and structural monitoring. Key themes include masonry-infilled RC frames, scour effects on bridges, flood impact modeling, and structural health monitoring using advanced sensing technologies.
Scientific Awards:
- IABSE Outstanding Paper Award 2025
- Scottish Power Innovation Forum Award-Project of the Year 2025
- Telford Premium Prize 2023
- Best paper award 2018
Dr. Tubaldi is actively supervising PhD students and leading multiple research projects with significant funding. His current projects include the Reduction of Uncertainties in risk assessment of structures and infrastructures against Natural hazards (REUN), Structural Health Monitoring of Bridges using Low-cost Radar, and research on using natural fibres to improve masonry structures in Malawi. He has secured grants from various sources including the Royal Society of Edinburgh and Scottish Road Research Board.
He is a key member of the Center for Intelligent Infrastructure at Strathclyde, collaborating with researchers across multiple disciplines to develop innovative solutions for infrastructure resilience. His work involves partnerships with industry stakeholders including Gruppo Sismica and Scottish transport agencies to translate research into practical engineering applications.
