Enrico Garavelli is a University Lecturer at the University of Helsinki's Department of Languages within the Faculty of Arts. His research focuses on Italian Renaissance literature, early modern literary controversies, and cultural exchanges between Italy and Scandinavia. He specializes in the study of Annibal Caro, Lodovico Castelvetro, and the history of Italian translations in Nordic countries.
Garavelli leads major research projects such as 'Dante and the Multiplicities of Cultures in Medieval Europe' (2020–2021) and 'Pinocchio International' (2022–2024). His work explores topics like 16th-century polemical literature, the history of book production, and the reception of Italian literature in Finland. He has edited critical editions of Lodovico Castelvetro's letters and Lodovico Domenichi's correspondence.
His recent publications analyze controversies between Caro and Castelvetro, the translation history of the Kalevala, and Scandinavian scholars' engagement with Italian texts. Garavelli serves as editor for academic journals and has organized international seminars on topics like 'Writing Literary Worlds in a Foreign Language.'
