Dr. Enrico Fontana is a Senior Lecturer of Sustainable Business at Cranfield School of Management, Cranfield University. He maintains additional affiliations as an affiliated researcher at Mistra Centre for Sustainable Markets (Stockholm School of Economics, Sweden) and a visiting fellow at Sasin School of Management (Chulalongkorn University, Thailand).
Dr. Fontana holds a BA in Business Administration from Bocconi University, an MSc in International Management from University College Dublin, an MBA in Management and Finance from McGill University, and a PhD in Business Administration with a major in Sustainable Business from Stockholm School of Economics. His academic journey includes postdoctoral studies at University of Victoria and prior lecturing experience at Sasin School of Management.
His research focuses on social and environmental challenges in emerging markets, with particular emphasis on corporate social responsibility, sustainable supply chains, and workplace inclusion. As a qualitative researcher, he employs ethnographic methods to understand how social and environmental challenges can be addressed in contexts like South and Southeast Asia. His current projects examine implementing social responsibility in emerging markets' supply chains and building more inclusive workplaces. His research frequently centers on the voices of managers and workers in emerging markets, especially regarding gender equality and transgender inclusion.
Dr. Fontana has published extensively in top journals including Journal of Business Ethics, Journal of Business Research, and Business Strategy and the Environment, with a strong focus on apparel supply chains in Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. His research shows consistent attention to marginalized communities and sustainable business practices in developing economies.
His professional background includes six years as an Area Manager in the apparel industry across Italy and Japan, plus collaboration with the United Nations University on sustainable textile manufacturing in Bangladesh, providing practical grounding for his academic work.
Dr. Fontana's work bridges academic research and practical implementation, particularly through initiatives like Trans for Career Thailand which he co-founded to advance transgender persons' careers and promote sustainable development through social media advocacy.
