Engel Andreas Karl

Engel Andreas Karl is a Full Professor of Physiology and Director of the Department of Neurophysiology and Pathophysiology at the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf (UKE). He also serves as Scientific Director of the Center for Experimental Medicine at UKE and holds visiting roles at Universitat Pompeu Fabra (Barcelona) and the University of Hamburg. His work focuses on neural synchrony, the binding problem, and consciousness. He earned his MD from the Technical University of Munich and has held prestigious fellowships including the DFG Heisenberg and Daimler-Benz Fellowships.
