Lyndon Emsley is a Professor of Physical Chemistry at École polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) and heads the Laboratoire de RMN (LRM). He holds a BSc from Imperial College London (1986) and a PhD from Université de Lausanne (1991). His career includes professorial roles at École Normale Supérieure de Lyon, where he was Director of the Chemistry Department (2006–2012) and Director of the Experimental Chemistry Laboratory (1999–2002). He also led the creation of the European High Field NMR Laboratory (completed 2008). His research focuses on advancing NMR spectroscopy for atomic-level structural analysis of complex materials and molecular systems.
Research Interests: Development of NMR techniques including solid-state NMR, dynamic nuclear polarization, surface-enhanced NMR, and applications to materials science, structural biology, and surface chemistry. His work bridges chemistry, physics, and biology, addressing challenges in material characterization and biological dynamics.
