Dr. Emrys Schlatter is a Researcher at the Institute for Religious Studies within the Department of History and Cultural Studies at Freie Universität Berlin since October 2016. His academic work focuses on divine concepts, polytheism, and eschatological ideas in classical antiquity. Schlatter completed his BA in Classical Philology at Brandeis University, MA at Harvard University, and PhD in Greek Philology (summa cum laude) at LMU Munich, where he was a Fellow of the Graduate College "Distant Worlds".

His research explores ancient Greek and Roman religious systems, particularly:
- Divine corporeality and pantheon organization
- Ritual practices in Greek antiquity
- Literary-religious intersections in imperial period texts
- Death, afterlife, and underworld concepts
- Attic drama, especially works of Aeschylus
- Monstrous divinity in archaic poetry
Current research includes the DFG-funded project "Götterkonstellationen: Vielzahl und Gottesvorstellungen in der griechischen Antike" investigating divine plurality in ancient Greek polytheism.
