Emmanuelle Saada

Emmanuelle Saada is a Professor at Columbia University and Director of the Center for French and Francophone Studies. Her work bridges French and Francophone studies with historical and legal analysis.

• Research Interests: Focus on 19th and 20th Century French Imperialism, Legal Cultures, and the History of French Social Thought.
• Publications: Author of Empire's Children: Race, Filiation and Citizenship in the French Colonies (2012) and a forthcoming historiographical book on European colonization. Currently researching law and violence in 19th-century Algeria and France.
