Emmanuelle Connen holds the Canada Research Chair in Urban Heritage at Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM), where she focuses on the conservation and repurposing of historic infrastructure and the enhancement of built heritage. Her work bridges urban evolution, architectural preservation, and sustainable planning, particularly in post-industrial and multicultural contexts.
Education:
- Civil Engineer and Architect, University of Louvain
- Specialized Master's in Conservation and Restoration of Immovable Cultural Heritage (joint program: UCL/ULB/ULg/UMons/UNamur)
Research Interests: Urban heritage conservation, conversion of historical infrastructure, public space design, and the role of cultural landscapes in shaping urban identity. Her projects include the Soulanges Canal revitalization and the Istanbul port redevelopment in Eminönu.
Collaborations: Works with Professor Luc Noppen and Belgian academics on heritage projects, emphasizing international perspectives through her fluency in four languages and global experience.
