Emmanuel Ullmo is a Full Professor at the University of Paris-Sud and has served as Director of the Institut des Hautes Études Scientifiques (IHES) since 2013. His career spans prestigious positions, including Assistant Professor at Princeton University and administrative roles in academic leadership.
- PhD in Mathematics, Université Paris-Sud (1993)
- Habilitation, Université Paris-Sud (1997)
- Student, École Normale Supérieure de Cachan (1985–1989)
Ullmo’s research lies at the intersection of number theory, algebraic geometry, and ergodic theory. He has made significant contributions to the study of Shimura varieties, equidistribution of Hecke points, and the André-Oort conjecture, often leveraging tools from automorphic forms and transcendence theory.
His work explores connections between arithmetic geometry and dynamical systems, particularly through equidistribution theorems and applications of ergodic theory to Diophantine problems. Key themes include height theory, modular curves, and special subvarieties.
Scientific Awards and Grants
- Prix Elie Cartan (2006)
- Institut Universitaire de France Member (2003–2008)
- NSF Grant (1999–2001)
- Invited Speaker, ICM (2002)
Ullmo has advised five PhD students, including Zyang Gao and Martin Orr, and played leadership roles in organizing mathematics conferences and editorial boards. He served as Managing Editor of Inventiones Mathematicae and chaired the Erasmus Mundus Network ALGANT node at Paris-Sud.
