Emmanuel Petitcolas is a Researcher in the GREEN team at the UMR 408 SQPOV (Safety and Quality of Plant-Based Products) at Avignon Université. He has been with the institution since 1997, initially joining as a technician and later becoming integral to the eco-extraction research theme under Prof. Farid CHEMAT. His work focuses on optimizing solid/liquid extraction processes to enhance active ingredient yields, utilizing innovative technologies such as ultrasound and microwave systems.
Education and Early Career: Petitcolas pursued a Master’s degree in Nancy, with internships at Michelin (polymer synthesis) and a university lab (surfactant synthesis). Though he did not pursue a thesis, he transitioned to academic research in 1997, contributing to the UMR SQPOV’s foundational work. His skills expanded with the eco-extraction focus post-2006, enabling deeper engagement in research.
Research Interests: Petitcolas specializes in eco-friendly extraction methods for natural products, emphasizing process optimization (e.g., solvent selection, grinding techniques) and technology transfer. Recent projects include confidential industrial collaborations exploring aroma intensification of plant extracts and microwave impact studies. He recently trained on membrane filtration pilots for future projects.
Outreach and Training: He actively engages in science popularization, leading workshops for schoolchildren (e.g., essential oil extraction demonstrations during Science Fairs) and guiding interns and doctoral students on advanced laboratory technologies. His efforts bridge academic research with public engagement.
Professional Background: As a core member of the GREEN team, Petitcolas collaborates across disciplines, blending chemical engineering principles with food safety and quality objectives. His contributions reflect a blend of technical expertise and pedagogical commitment.
