Emmanuel Candès

Emmanuel Candès is a Professor at Stanford University, holding dual appointments in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics and Electrical Engineering (by courtesy). He earned his PhD in Statistics from Stanford in 1998.

His research spans computational harmonic analysis, statistics, information theory, signal processing, and mathematical optimization, with a focus on theoretical and applied problems in data science.

Scientific Awards

• Alan T. Waterman Award (2006), the highest honor from the National Science Foundation.

He has delivered over 50 plenary lectures at major international conferences and participated in programs like the Foundations of Data Science (2018) and Theoretical Foundations of Big Data Analysis (2013) at Stanford. Additionally, he served as a Visiting Scientist.
