Emmanuel C. P. Awohouedji is a PhD candidate in Human Geography and Urban Studies at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), Department of Geography and Environment. He holds an Associate Fellowship from the UK Higher Education Academy and has taught courses such as 'Introduction to Global Development.' His research focuses on urban development in Benin, particularly through the lens of urban political ecology (UPE), examining sustainable development, colonial urban planning legacies, and infrastructural changes in cities like Abomey-Calavi. He explores themes including mental health geographies, postcolonial urban dynamics, and the role of language and religion in shaping societal attitudes.
Before his PhD, Emmanuel worked with NGOs like SANUS (Santé pour tous dans l’Unité et la Solidarité) and the Civic Academy for Africa’s Future (CiAAF), leading environmental education initiatives and policy consultations. His current project, funded by LSE, investigates the socio-ideological impacts of urban infrastructure reconstruction in Benin’s 'Age of Revelation.'
He has received the Fulbright Scholarship for his Master’s in Global Environmental Politics at American University and the KEI Fund for community engagement workshops tied to his research. His work bridges academia with practical policy interventions, emphasizing citizen participation and equitable urban futures.
