Emmanouel Tsiknakis

Emmanouel Tsiknakis is a Professor of Biomedical Informatics and eHealth at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering of the Hellenic Mediterranean University since May 2019. He also serves as the director of the LaTICE research laboratory and is a visiting professor/researcher at the Foundation for Research and Technology Hellas (FORTH-ICS) since 2012.

• B.Eng. (1983), M.Sc. (1985), and Ph.D. (1989) in Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Microprocessor Engineering, and Signal Processing & Intelligent Systems, respectively, from the University of Bradford, UK.

His research spans Biomedical Informatics, Affective Computing, Intelligent Activity Recognition Systems, and eHealth/mHealth innovations, with over 300 publications. He has led numerous EU-funded R&D projects and received awards for applied research and eHealth innovation.

Scientific awards include:

• eEurope/eHealth Award in 2003 for HyGEIAnet
• Best Applied-Research of FORTH in 2004

He has held administrative roles such as Vice-Rector for Research and Infrastructure Development at TEI of Crete (2013-2017) and founded the Biomedical Informatics (BMI) laboratory in 2012. He is an elected member of the Regional Council for Research and Innovation of Crete (2017–2021), Associate Editor of IEEE Transactions on Biomedical and Health Informatics, and a regular evaluator for EU H2020 and IMI proposals.
