Dr. Emma Reid is a Lecturer in Cardiovascular & Metabolic Health at the University of Glasgow. She holds a BSc in Physiology (2005), First-Class Honours in Neuroscience (2008), and a PhD in Clinical Neuroscience (Glasgow). Recognized with the Ede & Ravenscroft Prize for Biology, her research focuses on novel therapies for ischaemic diseases, particularly cerebral and retinal ischaemia, using clinically relevant models incorporating hypertension and diabetes.
Her career includes postdoctoral work at the University of Ulster and Queen’s University Belfast, where she explored cell therapy for vascular repair in retinal diseases. She returned to Glasgow in 2014, expanding her stroke research while developing teaching expertise. She coordinates the Neuroscience degree and Widening Participation programs, contributing to numerous undergraduate and postgraduate courses in the College of Medical, Veterinary & Life Sciences.
Key research areas include retinal vascular regeneration, Angiotensin-based stroke therapies, and MRI applications in stroke imaging. Her work has been presented at international conferences such as ARVO and BRAIN PET. Awards include the Ede & Ravenscroft Prize for Biology (2008).
Emma supervises undergraduate research projects and is involved in educational initiatives to enhance accessibility in higher education.
