Emma Morris is an Assistant Professor at Lamar University, specializing in sedimentary geology with a focus on deepwater, deltaic, and shallow marine depositional systems. She holds a PhD from the University of Liverpool and a BSc (Hons) in Geoscience from the University of St Andrews, UK. Her research includes deformation processes in growth faulting, the potential of coal as a source of rare earth elements (REEs) and critical minerals, and human impacts on sedimentation via dams and reservoirs such as the Glen Canyon Dam and Lake Powell.
Her methodological approach combines traditional fieldwork with cutting-edge techniques like drone photogrammetry, virtual outcrop models, and geochemical analysis. She is currently involved in a Department of Energy-funded project (Core-CM) addressing critical mineral supply gaps in the U.S.
Recent publications explore tidal deposits in contrasting coastal settings, transitional flow bedforms in submarine slopes, and architectural analysis of deltaic outcrops. These works highlight her expertise in depositional dynamics, ichnology, and sedimentary basin characterization.
