Emma Jane Rose is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychology at Pennsylvania State University. She serves as Director of the Research on Adversity and Risk (ROAR) Lab in the Child Study Center and is the Co-director of the Social, Life, and Engineering Sciences Imaging Center.
- Ph.D. in Psychiatry from the University of Edinburgh
- Postdoctoral fellowships in Baltimore, MD, and Dublin, Ireland
Her research employs a translational neuroscience framework to investigate brain structure/function changes linked to suboptimal developmental trajectories, focusing on preventing high-risk outcomes in children and families. Key areas include substance use/abuse in adolescence, pharmacological effects on reward processing, and developmental fMRI studies of alcohol use. She operates at the individual level of analysis and works with projects like the Program on Empathy, Awareness, and Compassion in Education (PEACE) and Mindful Yoga for Opioid Dependence.
Emma has authored/co-authored 36 peer-reviewed journal articles and 2 book chapters, served as an ad hoc reviewer for 20+ journals (including *JAMA Psychiatry* and *Biological Psychiatry*), and had her work featured in BBC and National Geographic. She is affiliated with the Child Study Center and Social, Life, and Engineering Sciences Imaging Center.
