Dr. Emma Davidson is a Senior Lecturer in Social Policy and Qualitative Research Methods at the University of Edinburgh's School of Social and Political Science. She holds leadership roles as co-director of the Binks Hub and the Centre for Research on Families and Relationships, and serves as co-editor of Scottish Affairs. Her research focuses on social inequalities, community identity, and participatory methodologies, with special attention to youth transitions, public libraries, and Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs).
Education: PhD in Social Policy (University of Edinburgh), MSc Childhood Studies, MSc Housing and Urban Studies, BA Sociology (all from the University of Edinburgh).
Research interests include bridging employability and family support, poverty advocacy through the Poverty Truth Community, and qualitative longitudinal studies. She has published widely on topics like participatory research, ACE-aware policy, and the role of libraries in civil society.
Grants include projects with Fife Gingerbread and the Poverty Truth Commission. She supervises PhD students in areas such as child development, vulnerability, and refugee youth experiences. Professional service includes roles with Stepping Stones (North Edinburgh) and the Craigmillar Literacy Trust.
