Emma Chamberlain, OBE, is a Visiting Professor of Law at Oxford University and Visiting Professor of Law in Practice at the LSE Inequalities Unit. She holds affiliations with Pump Court Tax Chambers and serves on key tax advisory bodies, including the GAAR Advisory Board and the Office for Tax Simplification’s Consultative Committee on IHT. Her work focuses on wealth taxation, inheritance law, and tax policy reform.
Education: MA (Oxon) from the University of Oxford. Professional qualifications include being a barrister and Fellow CTA.
Research interests include taxation of wealth transfers, international tax law, and tax simplification. She contributed to the Wealth Tax Commission’s 2020 report and co-authored major works like Trust Taxation and Estate Planning and chapters in the IFS Mirrlees Report. Her recent projects address foreign domicile rules, residential property taxation, and succession law.
Awards: OBE for services to taxation law and public policy, and Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Taxation.
Advising and Grants: Secondments to HM Treasury and HMRC on tax legislation drafting (e.g., foreign domicile reforms in 2016). Active in policy advisory roles for tax simplification and wealth taxation.
