Emma Beckett

Emma Beckett is a Research Fellow in Archaeology at the School of Social Sciences, University of Western Australia. Her work focuses on rock art, submerged cultural landscapes, and Indigenous heritage preservation in northwest Australia. She contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to cultural preservation and environmental stewardship.

Her research explores Murujuga (Burrup Peninsula) rock art and stone structures, investigating their archaeological significance and environmental context. She employs multiscalar methods, combining field surveys with laboratory analysis to study lithic artifacts and submerged sites. Recent projects include documenting intertidal zone artifacts and analyzing argilliturbation effects on clay-rich soils.

Beckett collaborates on excavations and heritage management strategies, addressing challenges like coastal erosion and tourism impacts. Her work bridges archaeology with environmental science, emphasizing interdisciplinary approaches to cultural landscape interpretation.
