Emily Wroblewski is an Assistant Professor of Biological Anthropology at Washington University, with a PhD from the University of Minnesota. Her research focuses on the population and evolutionary immunogenetics of the major histocompatibility complex (MHC) in African apes, including chimpanzees, bonobos, and gorillas. She also studies primate molecular ecology, population genetics, and the interplay between immunity, disease (e.g., SIV and malaria), and behavioral ecology in wild populations.
Her work examines how genetic variation in immune-related genes influences host-pathogen coevolution, reproductive strategies, and social behavior. Notable projects include investigations into MHC diversity in bonobos, genetic compatibility in chimpanzee mating, and the fitness consequences of SIVcpz infection in wild populations.
Recent publications (2017–2009) highlight her contributions to understanding primate immune systems, genetic diversity across populations, and the evolutionary dynamics of disease resistance. Her research bridges genetics, ecology, and evolutionary biology to elucidate complex adaptive traits in non-human primates.
