Emily Wang is an Associate Professor of Slavic and Eurasian Studies at the University of Notre Dame, with affiliations at the Nanovic Institute for European Studies and the Initiative for Race and Resilience. Her research focuses on Russian poetry, intellectual history, and the intersections of race, emotion, and politics in Russian literary contexts. She holds a Ph.D., M.A., and B.A. from Princeton University and Wesleyan University, respectively.
Her work explores how Russian poetry shaped cultural and political movements, particularly through the lens of figures like Alexander Pushkin and the Decembrists. Notable publications include Pushkin, the Decembrists, and Civic Sentimentalism (2023) and articles on Pushkin’s racial identity and the Decembrist movement’s emotional communities.
Publications often blend historical analysis with contemporary debates, such as linking 19th-century poetry distribution practices to modern digital piracy. Her research bridges literary studies, race theory, and cultural history. She advises on grants related to Slavic studies equity and has organized conferences on topics like 'Conceptualizing the Human in Slavic and Eurasian Culture.' Her office is located at 110 Decio Faculty Hall, Notre Dame.
