Emily Stephen is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Boston University. Her research focuses on statistical modeling of neural signals across spatial scales (spikes, LFP, ECoG, EEG/MEG), emphasizing the integration of anatomical and dynamical features to bridge micro- and macro-scale neural activity. She is affiliated with the Probability and Statistics research group and the BU Center for Systems Neuroscience, BU Neuroscience, and BU Neurophotonics Center.
Her work aims to explain discrepancies in neural signals across scales and improve understanding of micro-scale dynamics underlying pathological states. She advises PhD students in Statistics and the Graduate Program in Neuroscience at BU. She maintains an active lab focused on developing models for neural signal analysis and collaborates with interdisciplinary teams in systems neuroscience and neuroengineering.
Affiliations include the BU Math and Stats department, BU Neuroscience programs, and multiple interdisciplinary centers. She has published extensively on neurophysiological signal modeling, anesthetic effects on brain dynamics, and computational neuroscience tools. Her research integrates advanced statistical methodologies with neurobiological questions, emphasizing translational applications in clinical neuroscience.
