Emily Shin-Jie Lee is a cultural practitioner and researcher serving as a guest teacher for the MA Artistic Research program at the Royal Academy of Art, The Hague. She concurrently holds the position of head of research at Framer Framed, focusing on residencies and cross-institutional collaborations, and is a PhD candidate at the Amsterdam School for Cultural Analysis (ASCA), University of Amsterdam.
Her research critically examines art residency practices through ecological, feminist, and decolonial frameworks, utilizing discursive formats and alternative pedagogical approaches. Key projects include Past Disquiet (2025), Tanah Merdeka (2023), and Archipelagic Affects (2023), which explore collaborative knowledge production across geopolitical contexts.
Lee co-founded Lightbox (a public photo library in Taipei), Limestone Books (an art book store in Maastricht), and Hide & Seek Audiovisual Art (a collective for cultural mediation). She has coordinated major initiatives such as the KITLV-Framer Framed residency programme (2022–present) and Werkplaats Molenwijk with Rijksakademie (2022–2024), emphasizing community-engaged artistic practices.
