Emily Schmied

Emily Schmied is Associate Professor and Division Head of Health Promotion and Behavioral Science at San Diego State University. She holds a Ph.D. in Public Health from UC San Diego/SDSU and MPH from SDSU.

Research examines military mental health, sleep interventions, suicide prevention, and health disparities. Her work develops practical interventions for high-stress occupations.

Publications demonstrate consistent focus on psychological health in military contexts, including sleep optimization programs for sailors and PTSD treatment barriers. Recent grants support telehealth access and suicide prevention research.

Schmied mentors doctoral students in veteran health disparities and military suicide prevention. She received SDSU's Golden Apple Teaching Award and leads multiple DOD-funded projects.
