Emily Schaad serves as Assistant Professor and Director of Orchestral Activities at the State University of New York at Fredonia, holding a D.M.A. from Boston University.
Prior to her current appointment, she directed orchestral programs at Clemson University, the South Carolina Governor’s School for the Arts and Humanities, Greenville County Youth Orchestras, and Asheville Symphony Youth Orchestras. Her New York experience includes teaching in Liberty, Hyde Park, and Arlington School Districts and co-founding the Stringendo Orchestra School in Poughkeepsie.
Her research and pedagogical focus encompasses:
- Orchestral/Opera Literature
- Conducting methodologies
- String instrument pedagogy
- Viola performance techniques
- Appalachian musical traditions
Dr. Schaad maintains active roles as a regional/all-state conductor, opera conductor, orchestra consultant, and old-time fiddler.
