Dr. Emily Rose Palm is an Assistant Professor in Plant Physiology at the Department of Biotechnology and Biosciences, University of Milano-Bicocca. She holds an RTDA position working with Prof. Massimo Labra, conducting research on urban green spaces and plant responses to urban environmental conditions. Her office is located in room 4004, building U3, and her laboratory is in room 2013, building U3.
Dr. Palm's research focuses on plant adaptation and response to abiotic stresses, including salinity, heavy metals, nutrient deficiency and toxicity, and drought. Her current work evaluates both the effect of revegetating urban spaces on air and water quality and biodiversity, as well as how plant species respond to urban environmental conditions. She employs techniques including gas exchange measurements, chlorophyll fluorescence, and plant biochemical analysis.
Dr. Palm's recent publications (2018-2022) demonstrate consistent output in high-impact plant science journals, with a focus on salinity tolerance in crops and trees, heavy metal uptake in poplar and willow species, and phytoremediation of contaminated soils. Her work often involves collaboration with international researchers across multiple continents.
Her notable achievements include:
- National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship Program grant (2008)
Dr. Palm maintains extensive international collaborations with researchers from institutions across Africa, Europe, and North America. Her lab, Palm Lab (#PalmLab_BtBs), provides research opportunities focused on practical applications of plant science for improving urban environments through revegetation and phytoremediation.
